The leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State on Saturday suspended its secretary, Paulinus Udechukwu, its legal adviser, Emeka Ihejirika, and 28 other members over allegations of insubordination and indiscipline.
The suspension was announced by LP’s State Executive Council (SEC), which accused the affected members of attempting to cause a crisis within the party and the state at large.
Speaking on the decision, the Imo State LP Chairman, Calistus Ihejeagwa, stated that the suspended members would face a disciplinary committee for investigation.
He also revealed that the party had passed a vote of no confidence in Governor Hope Uzodimma, citing his failure to address key challenges such as hunger and insecurity in the state.
According to Ihejeagwa:
“On the state of governance in Imo State, the SEC passed a vote of no confidence in Governor Uzodimma as there is hunger in the land.
The SEC calls on the governor to return home and focus fully on governance.”
This development signals escalating tensions within the Labour Party in Imo State, as internal conflicts and dissatisfaction with the ruling government continue to shape the political landscape.
