In a major relief for students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), the university management has conceded to sustained student advocacy by reducing the proposed 100 percent sundry fee increment to 60 percent for the 2025/2026 academic session, following weeks of constructive dialogue with the Student Union Government (SUG) of both Nsukka and Enugu campuses.

The reduction was formally communicated in a press release issued by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, on Friday, January 16, 2026, in which the management announced the outcome of its engagements with the Student Union Government of both the Nsukka and Enugu campuses, confirming that the initially proposed sundry fee increase had been reviewed downward in the interest of consensus, student welfare, and institutional harmony.

UNN Management Concedes to Students’ Demand on Sundry Fees


The Management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), acting on behalf of the Governing Council, has approved a 60 percent increase in sundry charges for the 2025/2026 academic session, following engagements with the Student Union Government (SUG) of Nsukka and Enugu Campuses. This represents a 40 percent reduction from the initially proposed 100 percent increment.

The decision was reached after weeks of dialogue with student representatives and was concluded at a meeting held on Friday with SUG leaders from both campuses. A detailed breakdown of the revised charges by faculty and level will be released in due course.

Under the agreement, students will retain the option of paying the charges in two installments, and accommodation fees remain unchanged for the session.

The SUG leadership thanked the University Management for its understanding and called on students to remain calm, law-abiding, and to comply with the agreed terms, while discouraging actions capable of disrupting peace on campus.

University Management reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, student welfare, and the continuous development of the institution.
