The political atmosphere in Nkanu West Local Government Area was charged with enthusiasm on Monday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) formally flagged off its e-registration exercise, signalling a growing grassroots momentum and a firm consolidation of Enugu State’s alignment with the political centre. The exercise, which held at Central School, Ndiagu Obuno Akpugo, attracted a large turnout of party leaders, stakeholders, and residents who eagerly embraced the party’s digital membership drive, widely viewed as a strategic step toward strengthening the APC’s structure and presence across the council area.
Addressing the gathering, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Council, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, warmly praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his Renewed Hope Agenda as a sincere and people-focused vision designed to reposition Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and shared prosperity. He urged the people of Nkanu West and Ndi Enugu to fully key into the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the President means well for Nigerians and is laying a solid foundation for grassroots empowerment and national development. According to him, the benefits of federal programmes would become more evident as citizens align with the centre and actively support the policies of the Tinubu-led administration.
Hon. Ogbodo also showered glowing accolades on Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whom he described as a visionary leader with good intentions for Enugu State and a clear understanding of the importance of strategic political alignment. He said the Governor’s decision to connect Enugu State to the centre was driven by the need to unlock greater opportunities, attract federal presence, and fast-track development across the state. The Council Chairman noted that Governor Mbah’s leadership has already translated into visible and measurable progress, particularly at the grassroots level, where governance matters most to the people.
Highlighting key achievements of the Mbah administration in Nkanu West, Ogbodo pointed to strategic road projects such as the Amodu–Akpugo–Akpawfu–Amagunze Road, the construction of smart green schools in all wards, the establishment of Type-II Primary Healthcare Centres, provision of boreholes, and other community-focused interventions. He stressed that these projects are clear evidence of a results-driven government committed to improving the quality of life of the people, adding that development in Enugu State has moved beyond promises to practical delivery.
The Nkanu West flag-off followed last week Thursday’s historic commencement of the APC e-registration exercise by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah at Owo Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area, the Governor’s political ward, a development that marked the official take-off of the statewide digital registration drive. The continuation of the exercise in Akpugo, according to party leaders, reflects the growing acceptance of the APC across Enugu State and the increasing confidence of the people in the party’s development-oriented leadership.
Speaking after the event, the Enugu East Zonal Lead for the APC e-registration exercise, Mr. Kelvin Ede, confirmed the successful flag-off in Nkanu West, noting that many residents registered even before the ceremony concluded. He expressed optimism that registrations would surge significantly within days, attributing the enthusiasm to the visible achievements of Governor Mbah, including the delivery of smart schools, modern healthcare facilities, and critical infrastructure across the state. Earlier remarks by grassroots leaders, including the APC Chairman of Akpugo Ward II, Mr. Emeka Paul Benjamin, and the APC Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, Mr. Sunday Onovo, emphasised unity, discipline, and sustained mobilisation as essential to building a strong and credible party structure ahead of future political engagements.
The highlight of the event was the biometric capture and registration of Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo as APC Member Number 001 in Nkanu West Local Government Area, a symbolic act that underscored leadership by example and the Chairman’s commitment to grassroots party growth. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Engr. Friday Nnam, the Secretary of the Council, Prince Onochie Igwesi, Esq., the Nkanu West APC E-Registration Administrator, Chidi Ani, Esq., alongside ward executives, party stakeholders, and community leaders, all united in projecting confidence that the Renewed Hope vision and Governor Mbah’s development agenda would continue to gain strong grassroots support across Enugu State.
