....The decision has been somewhat difficult for us to make as stakeholders of the party in Ekiti State. We are, however, compelled to take it considering the state of affairs within the party,” Fayose said.
A leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, on Thursday announced his resignation from the party, citing loss of confidence in its national leadership and alleged compromise of the governorship primary process.
Fayose, a younger brother of former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja, where he declared that he and his supporters could no longer remain in a party he accused of being hijacked by forces working against its survival.
“The decision has been somewhat difficult for us to make as stakeholders of the party in Ekiti State. We are, however, compelled to take it considering the state of affairs within the party,” Fayose said.
He accused the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, of deliberately undermining the party, alleging that both men were working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I have lost hope on the leadership of the party headed by Ambassador Iliya Damagum and Anyanwu who are out to destroy the PDP. You don’t need any soothsayer to tell you that both of them are working for the ruling APC,” he claimed.
Fayose further alleged that the ongoing arrangements for the PDP primaries in Ekiti had been “compromised,” adding that whoever emerged as candidate would not be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“In view of this, I hereby dissociate myself from this kangaroo arrangement,” he declared, while urging his supporters to remain calm as he consults on his next political move.
Though he did not disclose the platform he would use to pursue his governorship ambition, Fayose hinted that consultations were ongoing.
