The Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS) has announced that it will commence full enforcement against fake vehicle number plates, absence of number plates, and expired vehicle registration papers starting from Friday, August 15, 2025.

In a public statement signed by the Executive Chairman, Emmanuel Ekene Nnamani, the agency said the directive follows earlier warnings to motorists to ensure that their vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles are duly registered with authorized number plates and have valid registration papers.

The enforcement exercise will target defaulters in two main categories: motorists without genuine or any number plates at all, and those whose vehicle registration papers have expired. Offenders will face a penalty of ₦10,000, payable into an ESNG E-TICKET collection account presented by the enforcement team, alongside a default ticket.

ESIRS urged motorists to cooperate with the directive and to visit the nearest Motor Licensing Office (MLA) of the agency to obtain authentic number plates and renew expired papers.

The statement emphasized that the move is aimed at enhancing safety, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, and fostering a better society in Enugu State.
