The South East Development Commission (SEDC) has recorded a major breakthrough with the signing of its first major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of a flagship physical development project, with Enugu State emerging as the first beneficiary of the Commission's agricultural development initiative.

The development was disclosed by the Liaison Officer of the South East Development Commission in Enugu State, Hon. Edeani Maduabuchi Edeani, who described the event as a historic milestone for both Enugu State and the Commission.

According to Edeani, the landmark agreement underscores Enugu State's growing reputation as a hub for innovation, development and regional progress, while also reinforcing its position as a preferred destination for strategic investments.

He attributed the achievement to the visionary leadership of the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose proactive and forward-thinking approach to governance, he said, has created opportunities for transformational partnerships and economic development.

Edeani expressed profound gratitude to Governor Mbah for his unwavering support and confidence in the partnership, noting that the governor's commitment to agriculture, food security, youth empowerment and industrial development made the collaboration possible.

He also commended the Secretary to the State Government for representing the governor during the signing ceremony and for providing exceptional leadership and coordination throughout the process.

The SEDC liaison officer further appreciated the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice for ensuring that the legal framework of the agreement adequately protects the interests of Enugu State and its people.

He equally lauded the contributions of the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, the Commissioner for Water Resources, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilisation for their roles in the successful conclusion of the agreement.

Edeani reserved special commendation for the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South East Development Commission, Mr. Mark Okoye, for his visionary leadership and commitment to regional development.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Executive Director, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Cliff Ogbede; the Executive Director of Projects, Hon. Toby Okechukwu; the Head of Legal Services; and the entire management team of the Commission.

According to him, the milestone was the product of several months of consultations, negotiations, technical reviews and collaborative engagements between the South East Development Commission and the Enugu State Government, all aimed at securing the best possible outcome for the people of Enugu State and the South-East region.

He noted that Enugu occupies a strategic position within the South-East and expressed delight that the transformational initiative is taking off from the state.

Speaking on the significance of the project, Edeani explained that the initiative goes beyond conventional farming, describing it as a comprehensive agro-industrial development programme designed to generate massive employment opportunities for youths, empower farmers, attract private sector investment, strengthen food security and create sustainable wealth across the state.

He disclosed that the project would feature modern, world-class infrastructure capable of supporting commercial agriculture, agro-processing, mechanised farming and value-chain development. The initiative, he added, is designed to accommodate investors, cooperatives, smallholder farmers, agribusiness entrepreneurs and other stakeholders interested in participating in the agricultural transformation of the state.

The liaison officer further appreciated members of his office, including his staff and support team, for their dedication, patience and commitment towards making the historic achievement a reality.

He expressed optimism that the agreement has laid the foundation for a new era of agricultural development, economic prosperity and sustainable growth in Enugu State and the South-East region.
