In response to the tragic killings of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Alhaji Danjuma Garuba as his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Arewa Matters. Garuba, who was previously the APC Arewa Chairman in the state, has been appointed in a move aimed at pacifying the northern community and addressing growing concerns.

During a condolence visit to Torankawa in Bunkure Local Government Area, Governor Okpebholo, accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other dignitaries, assured the families of the slain hunters that they would receive full compensation for their tragic loss. He also pledged cash and food donations to assist the grieving families.

Expressing his outrage over the killings, Governor Okpebholo vowed that justice would be pursued relentlessly. "We will ensure that justice is served on those responsible for this heinous act," he affirmed.

As the situation remains tense, hundreds of family members and supporters took to the streets in a peaceful protest, demanding justice. Protesters carried placards reading “We demand justice for the killings of our people,” “Hunters are not criminals,” and “We demand the speedy dispensation of justice in this matter.” Many hunters, armed with their weapons, joined the demonstration, with some protesters chanting war songs and brandishing weapons as the governor’s convoy passed. Local residents worked to maintain order amidst the unrest.

The call for swift justice continues to grow louder, and the appointment of Garuba is seen as part of the governor's efforts to restore calm and strengthen relations with the northern community in the wake of the killings.
