A student of the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Osato Edobor, has been issued a disciplinary query for allegedly singing a derogatory response to a welcome song for Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The incident occurred on March 25, 2025, during the First Lady’s visit to the institution as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme and the distribution of 10,000 Professional Kits to midwives across Nigeria’s South-South region.

A viral video from the event showed some students altering the intended chant, "Na our mama be this o, we no get another one," to "Na your mama be this oh ehh…," in what appeared to be an open rejection of the First Lady. The clip quickly spread across social media, sparking mixed reactions.

Delta Nursing College Moves Against Student

Following the backlash, the school issued a query letter dated March 27, 2025, and signed by the Provost, Mrs. Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne. The letter, shared online by Broadcast Journalist Rufai Oseni, described Edobor’s action as a “malicious act of recording, singing, and posting an unofficial response” to the song.

The letter further referenced the institution’s Student Handbook, stating that Edobor's actions violated disciplinary rules. She has been given 24 hours to provide a written explanation in triplicate, justifying why she should not face disciplinary action.

The development has drawn public attention, with debates on whether the school's response is justified or a suppression of free expression.
