Former Commissioner Arrested for Leaving APC

Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, a former commissioner in Nasir El-Rufai's administration, was arrested on Thursday by security operatives in Kaduna.

Reports indicate that Operation Fushin KADA officers picked him up at 10:45 am, shortly after leaving his residence in the Kaduna metropolis.

Sources say he was taken to a court on Daura Road before being remanded in a correctional facility.

Sani was among the six ex-commissioners who recently defected from the APC, following El-Rufai’s resignation from the party.

El-Rufai Reacts

Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai alleged that Sani’s arrest was politically motivated. He claimed that his former aide was detained without formal charges or a First Information Report (FIR) from the police or the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice.

El-Rufai also noted that Sani was now facing money laundering charges, a crime beyond the jurisdiction of state courts and the police.
