In a leadership shake-up, Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). His appointment comes following the abrupt removal of Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu, whose tenure was initially scheduled to end on February 14.

The Federal Government confirmed that Professor Ujam's appointment would span six months, during which he will not be eligible to contest for the substantive position of Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Ujam, a distinguished academic with extensive experience in educational administration, is expected to steer the university through a critical transition period. His appointment underscores the Federal Government's commitment to maintaining stability and academic excellence at one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions.

The leadership overhaul at UNN also extends to the Pro-Chancellorship. General Ike Nwachukwu, who previously held the position, has been reassigned as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo as the new Pro-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

This development marks a strategic realignment in the leadership structure of UNN and reflects the government's focus on fostering efficient governance within the Nigerian higher education system. Stakeholders and members of the university community will be closely watching these changes, hoping for continued progress and innovation under the new leadership.
