UGBAWKA, Enugu — The Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State and Southeast, as well as Deputy National Publicity Secretary of ALGON, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, has cast his ballot in the ongoing Enugu State Local Government Council election.
Edeh voted at the Community School, Obeagu, Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, expressing satisfaction with the large turnout of voters and the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Edeh commended the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for the organisation of the election, while also applauding Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for creating an environment conducive to the peaceful exercise of citizens' democratic rights.
He equally commended the security agencies for their professionalism and efforts in maintaining peace and order across the polling areas.
The ALGON leader expressed optimism about the outcome of the election, saying he was confident that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would record a landslide victory in the state.
“I am particularly encouraged by the large turnout of voters. It is a clear indication of the people's interest in the democratic process. We are also happy that the exercise is progressing peacefully,” Edeh said.
He urged voters to remain peaceful and orderly as voting continues, stressing the need for all stakeholders to allow citizens to freely exercise their franchise without intimidation or disruption.
Edeh further called on political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to respect the electoral process and maintain peace before, during and after the announcement of results.
The Enugu State Local Government Council election is being conducted across the state's 17 local government areas for chairmanship and councillorship positions.
