Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET) has entered into a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) to strengthen the fight against malaria across Enugu State.
The partnership, under the Lives and Livelihood Fund (LLF) Malaria Elimination Project funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), is expected to boost malaria prevention, treatment and community-based elimination interventions while contributing to improved health outcomes for residents across the state.
The landmark agreement represents a significant step towards deepening community participation in malaria control and ensuring that vulnerable populations have greater access to preventive and treatment services.
Speaking on the partnership, WOSCONET expressed optimism that the intervention would make a meaningful difference in communities across Enugu State, stressing that the organisation remains committed to initiatives that improve public health and promote sustainable community development.
The organisation commended the Enugu State Government under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for providing counterpart funding and demonstrating what it described as strong commitment towards achieving a malaria-free Enugu State.
WOSCONET also acknowledged the contributions of development partners and host communities, noting that their cooperation would be crucial to the successful implementation and sustainability of the project.
The organisation reserved special commendation for its Founder, Ambassador Mrs. Amaka Judith Nweke, JP, whose leadership, strategic vision and dedication, it said, have continued to open doors for impactful community development initiatives.
WOSCONET equally recognised Mrs. Azuka Nwofor, Director of Poverty Alleviation and SDGs, for her role in facilitating and attracting the project to Enugu State.
According to the organisation, Nwofor's commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life of residents has contributed significantly to the emergence of interventions capable of addressing critical social and health challenges in the state.
The organisation also commended Mr. Ayodele Alogbeleye, Project Director, ECEWS, for his leadership and commitment to the successful implementation of the LLF Malaria Elimination Project.
Similarly, Mr. Chris Amalu, Project Lead, Community-Based Activities, ECEWS, was praised for his technical support, dedication and contribution to strengthening community-driven malaria interventions.
With implementation now set to commence, WOSCONET said it would work closely with the Enugu State Government, ECEWS, development partners and communities to reduce the burden of malaria and expand access to effective prevention and treatment measures.
The organisation said the partnership goes beyond the signing of an agreement, describing it as a collective commitment to saving lives, protecting families and building healthier and more resilient communities across Enugu State.
WOSCONET President, Comr. Mrs. Ezeaku Patience Uche-Udo, signed the statement on behalf of the organisation.
The organisation reaffirmed its determination to contribute its grassroots network and community mobilisation capacity towards the success of the intervention, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration among government, development partners, civil society organisations and communities can accelerate progress towards malaria elimination.
“Together, we can eliminate malaria. Together, we can build a healthier Enugu State,” WOSCONET declared.
