Ugbawka, Enugu — The Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State chapter, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, has been conferred with the traditional title “Omeluoha 1 of Ugbawka” along side his wife,Mrs Rita Edeh, ALGON Chairperson "oso di eme 1 of Ugbawka" during the Ofala festival of the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Jonathan Mbaede .
The honour was bestowed on the council chairman in recognition of his performance in governance, infrastructure development, and commitment to the security of lives and property in Nkanu East.
As part of the celebration, Edeh presented a car gift to the monarch, a gesture that drew emotional appreciation from the traditional ruler and members of the community.
Speaking shortly after receiving the title, Edeh described the recognition as a call to greater service.
“Today, I had the honour of receiving the prestigious title of Omeluoha 1 na Ugbawka from my traditional ruler. I hold Akpaa, my community, very dear to my heart. My political journey is incomplete without the support and encouragement of the people of this great community,” he said.
The ALGON chairman added that the honour would further strengthen his resolve to deliver good governance to the people of Nkanu East.
“This recognition is a call for me not to rest on my laurels. I will not relent in my pursuit to offer the people of Nkanu East the governance they truly deserve. I shall continue to build on the achievements we have recorded so far.
“On behalf of my beloved wife, children, and the good people of Ugbawka and Nkanu East at large, I thank our Royal Father for this recognition. My commitment towards delivering unparalleled and impactful projects to our people remains total. With your support, we shall continue to drive Nkanu East towards the path of greatness,” he stated.
In his remarks, the monarch, visibly emotional, praised Edeh for his philanthropic gestures and benevolence, particularly the gift of the car. He offered prayers for greater opportunities and higher positions for the council chairman.
The traditional ruler also conferred titles on several other personalities, including the Deputy ALGON Chairman in Enugu State and Chairman of Igboeze South LGA, Hon. Ugochukwu Ukwueze; ALGON Secretary and Chairman of Awgu LGA, Hon Okey Mbah, member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Okolo; Chairman of Enugu North LGA, Hon. Ibenaku Onoh; and former Chairman of Udi LGA, Engr. Ekene Eze. Hon Prince ifeanyi Onuoha, chief of staff to the Chairman,
Others honoured were Dr. Vincent Udobi; Majority Leader of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Francis Nwankwo; Chief Mrs. Chinenye Okoye, among several others.
The event attracted traditional rulers and dignitaries from across the state, including the Commissioner for Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Charles Egumgbe; Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, Hon. John Ogbodo; Chairman of Igbo-Etiti LGA, Hon. Eric Odoh; HRH Igwe H. Edeani, chairman Enugu council of traditional rulers, CEO of Phenotec Construction, Hon. Nze Philip Oko; former Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Ikechukwu Ubagu; and Deputy Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Paul Okwor.
Also in attendance were Hon. Martin Agbo; Hon. Nnamdi Nwafor, APC Zonal Chairman; Hon. Patrick Okoh, APC Treasurer in Enugu State; Hon.
