...Highlights Gov Mbah’s Unprecedented Developmental Strides Across the Council
The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, on a deeply symbolic and emotionally laden occasion, warmly received His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, during the Governor’s condolence visit to His Royal Highness, Igwe (Dr.) Greg Ugwu, JP, following the passing of his beloved mother, Late Chief (Mrs.) Mary Mgbeke Ugwu. The visit, which held at Attakwu Kingdom, resonated beyond condolences, standing as a powerful reaffirmation of responsive leadership, compassionate governance, and visible development at the grassroots.
Hon. Ogbodo, in a voice filled with gratitude and profound appreciation, thanked Governor Mbah for choosing Nkanu West as the very first local government area to visit in the New Year, 2026, describing the gesture as both reassuring and symbolic of the Governor’s people-centered leadership style. He noted that such a visit speaks volumes of a Governor who does not govern from a distance but remains closely connected to the pulse, pains, and progress of the people.
The Council Chairman showered glowing encomiums on Governor Mbah for the unprecedented infrastructural transformation currently redefining Nkanu West Local Government Area and Enugu State at large. He specifically applauded the construction of 14 world-class Smart Green Schools across the 14 political wards of Nkanu West, proudly disclosing that 13 of these ultra-modern learning facilities have been completed, fully equipped with cutting-edge technologies and ready to receive students. According to him, this landmark investment in education is not only restoring hope to communities but also laying a solid foundation for a future driven by knowledge, innovation, and global competitiveness.
Hon. Ogbodo further commended the Governor for his bold and visionary road infrastructure interventions, citing critical projects such as the Amagu–Attakwu Road and the expansive network of roads linking Amodu, Akpugo, Akpofu, and Amagunze, among many others. He described these roads as lifelines that have reconnected communities, boosted economic activities, eased transportation challenges, and restored dignity to rural dwellers who had long yearned for government presence.
In the health sector, the Council Chairman highlighted the ongoing construction of 13 Type 2 Primary Health Care Centres, noting with satisfaction that many of these facilities are nearing completion. He emphasized that these health centres will significantly strengthen primary healthcare delivery, reduce maternal and child mortality, and ensure that quality medical services are brought closer to the people at the grassroots.
Security, according to Hon. Ogbodo, has witnessed a historic turnaround under Governor Mbah’s strategic security architecture. He stressed that for the first time in the history of Nkanu West Local Government Area, no incident of kidnapping, robbery, or major social vices was recorded throughout the Christmas and New Year festivities, a sharp contrast to previous years. He described this achievement as a clear testament to purposeful leadership, effective coordination, and the Governor’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Aligning local governance with the Governor’s transformative agenda, Hon. Ogbodo also showcased key achievements of his council, including the Sexual Assault Referral Centre sited in Agbani, which stands as a bold statement of zero tolerance for gender-based violence and a compassionate response to victims. He further outlined the council’s ongoing construction of access roads leading to several Smart Green Schools, including those in Akegbe-Ugwu Ward 1, Akpugo Ward 1, Akpugo Ward 2, Akpugo Ward 4, Obe Smart School, Umueze Smart School, and others, ensuring that educational development is matched with functional infrastructure.
In the area of water provision, Hon. Ogbodo disclosed that Hybrid Solar-Powered Boreholes have been installed in 12 Smart Schools, ensuring steady access to clean water for both students and surrounding communities. Beyond the schools, he revealed that similar boreholes have been provided in several villages, including Onuoba Village, Onueke Village, Onugwu Achalla Village, Amuzam Village, Central Ndiagu Obuno Akpugo, and over 15 other villages, describing the intervention as a lifeline that has eased daily hardships and improved public health outcomes.
With heartfelt sincerity, the Council Chairman thanked Governor Mbah for his consistent support and visionary leadership, reaffirming the unwavering loyalty, solidarity, and full backing of the people of Nkanu West to the Governor’s administration.
