Nigerian culinary personality and internet sensation, Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, has reacted to widespread rumors suggesting she was preparing to cook the “largest pot of beans” in response to Chef Hilda Baci’s latest feat.
In a video shared on social media on Wednesday, the Ekiti-born chef, who is currently on a full scholarship at the Hospitality Business School in Lagos, began by congratulating Hilda Baci on her recent Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.
“I’d like to send a very big congratulations to Ms. Hilda for the just completed project of cooking the biggest pot of jollof rice to feed thousands,” Dammy said. “Congratulations to Nigeria as a whole too, because this is a win for everybody in Nigeria and across Africa.”
Addressing the speculation, Chef Dammy made it clear she had no such plans: “So, I’m actually making this video because people have been asking me, like, do you want to cook again? My classmates were even asking if I wanted to cook beans, and I said no! Why would I do that?”
Dammy, who first rose to fame with her “cook-a-thon” attempt in 2023, concluded the video by expressing heartfelt gratitude to her supporters. “I just want to say thank you to everybody that has been supporting me, fighting for me online, to my school mothers, and to everyone who has been part of my growth, even financially.”
Her clarification comes amid growing public curiosity about whether she would attempt another record-breaking challenge to rival Baci’s exploits. For now, Chef Dammy insists her focus remains on her studies and personal development.
