The Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET) has strongly condemned the rising cases of inhumane treatment and gender-based violence against women in Nigeria, particularly the recent assault on a female corps member in Anambra State and the degrading treatment of Ibom Air passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson.

In an official statement signed by the Acting President, Comrade Mrs. Ezeaku Patience Uche-Udo, the group described the continued acts of violence, abuse, and brutality against women across Anambra, Akwa Ibom, and Nigeria as "barbaric, unacceptable, and a gross violation of human rights."

WOSCONET lamented that women are increasingly subjected to physical, emotional, and psychological abuse, insisting that the time has come to put an end to the culture of silence and normalization of violence against women.

“We can no longer be silent while women are beaten, stripped naked, silenced, and shamed. This is not just a women’s issue, this is a human rights crisis,” the group declared.

The network expressed solidarity with all survivors of gender-based violence and called on the government and relevant agencies to take immediate and decisive action. Among its demands are:

Full enforcement of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act across all states of Nigeria.

Proper investigation and prosecution of all perpetrators of gender-based violence.

Establishment of more safe shelters and support services for survivors.

Training and sensitization of police, judiciary, and community leaders.

Continuous public education campaigns to change societal attitudes toward violence against women.

Condemning in strong terms the assault on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Anambra and the humiliating attack on Ms. Comfort Emmanson by Ibom Air crew members, WOSCONET stressed that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done to restore confidence in the system.

The group further emphasized that every woman deserves to live free from fear, violence, and intimidation, adding that its movement will continue to support, protect, and uplift women until Nigeria becomes a safe and equitable society for all.

“We say NO MORE! Not one more life lost. Not one more silenced voice. We stand strong for justice, dignity, and the protection of every Nigerian woman,” WOSCONET affirmed.
