The quiet community of Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State was thrown into mourning on Friday as family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers gathered to bid a final farewell to Barrister Ndubuisi Udutchay, the 33-year-old lawyer who was brutally attacked by gunmen in Enugu last month.
Udutchay’s remains were laid to rest in his country home amid tears and tributes from members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth associations who described his death as a monumental loss not only to his family but also to the legal profession and society at large.
Speaking during the funeral service, colleagues from the Enugu and Onitsha branches of the NBA eulogized the late barrister as a brilliant, courageous, and promising legal mind whose future was cut short by the rising wave of insecurity in the Southeast. They lamented that his untimely death was another reminder of the urgent need to address security challenges and improve healthcare facilities in the region.
In a moving tribute, his family described him as “a shining light whose passion for justice, humility, and dedication to humanity will never be forgotten.”
Community members also joined the mourners, paying homage to a young man they said lived a life of impact, mentorship, and service to others despite his short years.
