The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Barrister Ifeoma Azikiwe, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), winner of the Onitsha South State Constituency bye-election held on Saturday in Anambra State.

Azikiwe secured victory with over 7,000 votes, defeating her closest rival, Mrs. Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in what observers described as a keenly contested race.

The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly, with residents of Onitsha South turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility.

INEC officials, party agents, and security operatives were present to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls, which saw APGA retain its stronghold in Anambra politics despite spirited efforts from opposition parties.

With this victory, Barr. Ifeoma Azikiwe is set to bring fresh representation to the people of Onitsha South, promising to consolidate on APGA’s grassroots appeal while also advancing the cause of women in politics.
