The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has announced a free medical and surgical outreach as part of activities marking the 14th Biennial Delegates Meeting (BDM) 042, scheduled to hold in Enugu State in 2025. The event is slated for Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at Oganiru Primary School, (Obodo-Akpulu) Amankwo, Ihuokpara, Nkanu East LGA, Enugu State.

The outreach is aimed at providing critical healthcare services to the less privileged in the community, underscoring MDCAN’s commitment to alleviating health challenges while fostering wellness and preventive care across Enugu State. The organizers have emphasized that this initiative is not only a medical exercise but also a humanitarian mission designed to bring relief and hope to the underserved.

Comprehensive Services to Be Offered

Participants at the outreach will have access to a wide range of services, including but not limited to:

  • Cataract and hernia surgeries for patients in need of corrective procedures
  • General eye checks and medical consultations to ensure early detection and management of health conditions
  • Screening for diabetes mellitus and hypertension, a proactive step in combating lifestyle-related diseases
  • Treatment of minor illnesses and provision of health education aimed at improving personal and community health awareness
  • Deworming programs, especially targeted at children and vulnerable populations
  • Dental consultations, including scaling, polishing, and filling of teeth cavities
  • Lump incisions for early diagnosis and treatment of suspicious swellings

These services are designed to cater to both children and adults, highlighting a holistic approach to community healthcare.

Leadership and Coordination

The outreach is coordinated by a distinguished team of medical professionals. Prof. Ndukuba A.C serves as the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), while Prof. Okorougwu Nkiru chairs the Outreach Subcommittee. Assisting in this noble endeavor is Dr. Ugwunna Nwachukwu, Co-Chairman of the Outreach Subcommittee. Their combined expertise promises a well-organized and impactful program that is expected to draw wide participation from residents of Enugu and surrounding communities.

In an appeal to the public, the organizers encouraged everyone to partake in this “great noble service to humanity,” highlighting the outreach’s mission to “remove the pains in the shoulders of the less privileged in our midst and put huge smiles on many faces.”
