The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and Deputy Chairman of ALGON, Enugu State, Hon. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, in a bid to improve educational support and youth empowerment, has unveiled a multidimensional empowerment initiative targeting about 2,000 beneficiaries; comprising students and young people across the 16 wards in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area.
The programme, which takes place on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, by 11:00 a.m. at the LG Secretariat, Ibagwa-Aka, is in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s tech-driven vision for Enugu State. It includes a fully funded 2025 Bursary and Scholarship Scheme, a high-impact Emerging Tech Skills for Africa Programme and a specially tailored agro-empowerment training in collaboration with Mary Agro Farms, Udi.
Announcing the initiative through the Supervisory Councilor for Education and Social Services, Hon. Asanya Paul, Hon. Ukwueze stated that bursary registration is currently ongoing for all eligible students of Igbo-Eze South. The aim, according to him, is to cushion the financial burden on students and encourage academic excellence.
Similarly, the Emerging Tech Skills for Africa Programme, powered by Skilloline and supported by international partners, will provide participants with hands-on training in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Product Design, Cloud Computing and more. Successful participants will be awarded globally recognised diplomas, with all training fees fully covered by the local government.
Also, students who earlier applied for the JAMB intervention and submitted their details are invited for verification and immediate reimbursement the same day. The same meeting will also serve as the selection point for the first batch of trainees to be enrolled at Mario Institute for vocational and skill acquisition training.
To cap the council’s empowerment efforts, the Chairman has approved the sponsorship of five candidates to participate in the 2025 training session at Mary Agro Farms, Udi. The six-month intensive agricultural programme, which comes with a ₦500,000 post-training empowerment grant, is designed to promote food security and agripreneurship among local youths. The sponsorship package also includes feeding, accommodation and registration costs per beneficiary.
“This initiative is about building a future where our youths are skilled, educated and economically empowered,” Hon. Ukwueze affirmed, urging all eligible candidates to key into the programme while slots are still available.
