…Commends Gov. Mbah for Disability Commission Proposal
In a powerful show of solidarity and appreciation, the Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET) has commended the Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, KSJI, for his inspiring decision to appoint Mrs. Chinonso Loveth Echegi as Special Assistant to the First Lady on Gender Reform.
In a statement issued by the group’s Acting President, Comrade Mrs. Patience Uche-udo Ezeaku, WOSCONET described the appointment as a bold and compassionate step toward restorative justice and gender empowerment, following the harrowing experience of domestic violence that left Mrs. Echegi physically deformed.
"The appointment of Mrs. Chinonso Loveth Echegi is a defining moment not just for her, but for every woman who has ever felt voiceless, broken, or forgotten. Mayor Asogwa has rewritten her story, from victimhood to victory. This is what leadership looks like when guided by empathy and justice," the statement read.
WOSCONET further applauded Mayor Asogwa for his consistent advocacy against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), noting that his inclusive governance model is setting a new benchmark for local administration in Nigeria.
“Mayor Asogwa's deliberate inclusion of women in key leadership roles is bridging the gender gap in governance. His intervention in Mrs. Echegi’s case reminds us that no act of leadership is too small when humanity is at stake,” the group noted.
Additionally, the women’s group expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his progressive plans to establish a Disability Commission in the state.
"Governor Mbah’s proposed Disability Commission is a welcome development that speaks volumes about his inclusive vision and commitment to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. This move will not only institutionalize support but will also give a voice to the voiceless,” the statement continued.
WOSCONET called on other local government chairmen and public officeholders across the country to emulate the exemplary leadership of Mayor Asogwa and Governor Mbah, by prioritizing the welfare of women, survivors of violence, and persons with disabilities.
Signed:
Comrade Mrs. Patience Uche-udo Ezeaku
Ag. President,
