The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southeast has strongly condemned recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, dismissing his claims about Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership. In a press statement signed by the PDP Southeast Zonal Publicity Secretary, Engr. Sir Chigozie Igwe, the party described Wike’s comments as baseless, envious, and a clear display of frustration.
The statement reaffirmed Governor Mbah’s status as the undisputed leader of the PDP in the Southeast, citing his achievements in fostering unity and strengthening the party across the region. It also accused Wike of interfering in the party’s affairs in Anambra State, questioning his relevance in Southeast politics. The party reiterated its commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring the continued growth of the PDP under Governor Mbah’s leadership.

Southeast PDP Berates Wike, Reaffirms Support for Governor Mbah's Leadership
The recent remarks by Nyesom Wike, alleging that the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, claims to be the leader of the PDP in the Southeast but cannot adequately sponsor the party, resulting in a lack of governorship aspirants in Anambra State, are nothing short of envy and frustration. Let it be unequivocally stated: Barr. Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, is the undisputed leader of the PDP in the Southeast. His exemplary leadership has united the party across the zone. By his performance, Governor Mbah stands out as one of the best governors in Nigeria, and he is far too sophisticated to engage in petty exchanges with Nyesom Wike.
The truth is that the PDP in the Southeast, under the leadership of Barr. Peter Mbah and the Chairmanship of High Chief Ali Odefa, has grown beyond the influence of external forces. We are united under our leader and sympathize with Wike for his evident frustration.
The actions of the FCT Minister are a direct affront to the leadership of the PDP in the Southeast and a blatant disregard for the democratic principles our great party upholds. Under the visionary leadership of Barr. Peter Mbah, the PDP in the Southeast has achieved unprecedented unity across the five states. His unwavering commitment to inclusivity and fairness has been instrumental in the success of the recent Zonal Congress held in Enugu.
It is both laughable and ironic that Wike would question Governor Mbah's ability to sponsor a candidate for the Anambra State Governorship elections when the party primaries are yet to be conducted. Wike is clearly uninformed, as aspirants have already purchased the Anambra PDP Governorship forms.
While we acknowledge the challenges created by Wike and his allies, we are gradually overcoming them. It is unclear what interest Wike has in the Southeast, a man who has openly stated that he is not Igbo. His presidential ambition, despite Goodluck Jonathan from the South-South having previously served as President, ensured that the PDP presidential ticket did not come to the Southeast in the last general elections. We will not allow him to interfere in our affairs again. He has caused enough havoc, and we understand his frustrations. We have a leader we trust in Governor Mbah, and Wike lacks the moral authority to question his integrity.
It is high time Wike redirected his focus to his own affairs and refrained from meddling in matters that do not concern him. The PDP in the Southeast will not be intimidated or distracted by his baseless accusations and empty threats. We remain resolute in our mission to uphold the values of democracy and ensure the continued growth and unity of our party.
Signed:
Engr. Sir Chigozie Igwe
