Following the Supreme Court’s reaffirmation of political parties' autonomy in determining their leadership, Hon. Chima Obieze has cautioned Senator Anyanwu against premature celebration regarding the position of PDP National Secretary. Obieze emphasized that the ruling does not declare Anyanwu or Udeh-Okoye as the official occupant of the office, stressing that the final decision rests with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He urged restraint and accuracy in media narratives while awaiting the party’s formal pronouncement.
"Today, March 21, 2025, the Supreme Court has reaffirmed the autonomy of political parties in Nigeria, ruling that the decision of who occupies the position of National Secretary or any other office is the exclusive prerogative of the party.
This landmark judgment implies that neither Senator Anyanwu nor Udeh-Okoye has been officially declared the National Secretary. Ultimately, the decision rests with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
We urge Senator Anyanwu to desist from prematurely celebrating and misleading the public through various media channels. Instead, we await the party's official decision on this matter.
It is worth noting that the Southeast zonal caucus of the PDP, the Board of Trustees (BOT), the PDP Governors Forum, and the National Working Committee (NWC) have all endorsed Udeh-Okoye for the position.
We look forward to the party's final decision, which will bring clarity and direction to this matter
Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze
