The Enugu State Government, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has provided financial relief and essential supplies to victims of the fire incident that occurred on January 12, 2025, at a filling station along Ibagwa-Ugwogo-Opi Nsukka expressway.

The beneficiaries received cheques ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦1,500,000, alongside food and non-food items, as part of efforts to mitigate the impact of the disaster.

The fire outbreak, which happened while a fuel tanker was discharging products, resulted in the destruction of residential buildings, shops, and vehicles.

While sympathizing with the victims, Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Head of SEMA, Mrs. Chinasa Mbah, assured them of the government’s continued support. He emphasized that the financial aid and relief materials were provided to help them rebuild their lives.

Dr. Mbah, through the SEMA boss, urged residents to adopt safety measures to prevent future occurrences. He advised that fire extinguishers should be readily available, mobile phone usage should be avoided at filling stations, fuel dispensing should not occur while a tanker is offloading, and smoking should be strictly prohibited in such environments.

Speaking on behalf of the victims, Chief Peter Agbo, one of the affected landlords, expressed profound gratitude to the governor, describing him as a compassionate and responsive leader.

The relief materials distributed included bags of rice, gallons of vegetable oil, blankets, mosquito nets, spaghetti, and other essential supplies.

This intervention further underscores the Enugu State Government’s commitment to prompt disaster response and humanitarian support.
