The Enugu State House of Assembly has advanced a bill aiming to amend the 2004 Landlord and Tenant Law to protect tenants from excessive charges imposed by landlords and rental agents. The bill, sponsored by Okey Mbah, passed its second reading during Tuesday's plenary session.

The proposed amendment seeks to address the financial burden on tenants by regulating fees associated with securing accommodation. Key provisions include capping agent and legal fees at 10% of the annual rent and abolishing additional charges such as caution fees and management bills.
