The Enugu State Local Government Service Commission has taken a significant step towards enhancing productivity among local government staff through agricultural initiatives. On Tuesday, March 17, 2025, a delegation from the Commission paid a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, to explore collaborative opportunities in agro value chain development.

During the meeting, the delegation emphasized the need to engage local government staff in productive agricultural ventures through the Greenhouse Initiative and Smart Farm Projects of the state government. The initiative aims to maximize staff potential by integrating them into various agro-value chains, thereby boosting food security, economic growth, and additional income opportunities.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that local government employees actively contribute to the state's agricultural transformation agenda, in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to increase Enugu State’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. By leveraging modern agricultural techniques, the initiative seeks to create a sustainable framework for staff involvement in agribusiness.

Following extensive deliberations, both parties expressed satisfaction with the discussions and pledged to foster a strong partnership that will drive Enugu State’s agricultural and economic development.

The delegation was led by Hon. Peter Nnaji (Member 1), Hon. Dr. Bartholomew Ezugwu (Member 3), and Amb. Amaka Nweke (Member 4), who all reiterated their commitment to ensuring that local government staff become key contributors to the state's agro-industrial growth.
