Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has submitted an affidavit to the Senate Ethics Committee, containing the first batch of evidence supporting her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. This development intensifies the ongoing controversy within Nigeria's legislative body.

The allegations first surfaced when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senator Akpabio of inappropriate behavior during a visit to his residence in December 2023. She claimed that Akpabio made unwelcome advances towards her in the presence of her husband. Akpabio has denied these allegations, asserting his respect for women and highlighting his past recognition as a gender-friendly governor.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions previously dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan's petition, citing procedural violations. The committee ruled the petition "dead on arrival" as it allegedly contravened Senate Standing Rules.

In response to the dismissal, Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a lawsuit seeking N100 billion in damages. The situation has sparked protests and discussions about gender equality in Nigerian politics, with women's rights groups condemning her suspension and rallying under the banner "We are all Natasha."

As the controversy unfolds, the Senate faces increased scrutiny over its handling of sexual harassment allegations and the treatment of female legislators within its ranks.
