Enugu State is intensifying its preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival in 2026 with a key inspection tour of the Awgu Games Village. The visit, led by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the company of the Enugu State commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barr Lloyd Ekweremadu, and other prominent stakeholders, marks an important step in ensuring the state is fully equipped to host the prestigious event.
The state government is committed to leveraging the sports festival as a significant driver for economic growth. By investing in a multi-billion naira sports economy, Enugu aims to transform its economic landscape and increase its GDP from $4 billion to $30 billion in the coming years, with sports development playing a crucial role in this vision.
During the inspection, officials assessed the progress of ongoing projects, making sure all facilities are on schedule and up to standard. The tour also allowed the team to refine logistics and fine-tune plans to ensure a world-class festival experience for athletes and visitors alike.
