The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2024 External Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing a pass rate of 67.3%.
According to the report, 57,114 candidates—accounting for 67.3%—secured credits in at least five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language.
However, NECO has blacklisted 14 examination centres for widespread malpractice across nine subjects. Of these, ten are in Ogun State, while four are in Oyo State.
Additionally, seven supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and involvement in malpractice. This includes two supervisors each from Oyo and Ogun States, and one each from Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi States.
NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results on Friday while presenting the outcome of the 2024 SSCE External.
Out of 86,067 registered candidates, 84,799 participated in the exams held in November 2024. Performance statistics show that 75.6% (62,929 candidates) obtained a credit or higher in English Language, while 93.9% (77,988 candidates) achieved the same in Mathematics.
Furthermore, 57,114 candidates (67.3%) passed with five credits, including Mathematics and English, while 70,711 candidates (83.3%) earned five credits irrespective of these two subjects.
Notably, incidents of examination malpractice have declined by 27.7% compared to 2023, with 6,160 candidates reported for misconduct—down from 8,518 in the previous year.
Professor Wushishi emphasized that the SSCE External serves as a crucial opportunity for candidates looking to improve their results for admission into higher institutions both in Nigeria and abroad.
