...Local Government Service Commission Chairman says national honour underscores commitment to good governance and efficient public service

Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has received the prestigious Grand Performer Award at the Mandatory National Summit of Local Government Service Commissions of Nigeria held in Abuja in October 2026.

Reacting to the recognition, the Chairman of the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, Barr. Nana Ogbodo, congratulated the governor, describing the award as a significant honour that reflects his administration’s commitment to effective governance, public service excellence and sustainable development.

The award was presented at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development in Abuja, during a gathering of key stakeholders in local government administration and public service from across Nigeria and received by The Honorable Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Enugu State,  Prof. Sam Ugwu, on behalf of the governor.

Ogbodo, who conveyed his congratulations on behalf of the commission, said the recognition had placed Enugu State in the national spotlight and demonstrated the importance of purposeful leadership in strengthening public institutions and improving service delivery.

He noted that the honour should serve as further encouragement for public officers and local government personnel in Enugu State to remain committed to professionalism, accountability, efficiency and diligence in the discharge of their duties.

The commission chairman also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting Governor Mbah’s development agenda through effective personnel administration, institutional reforms and the continuous promotion of a skilled, motivated and productive local government workforce.

According to him, an efficient and professionally managed local government service remains critical to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people, particularly at the grassroots, where public institutions directly influence community development and citizens’ welfare.

Ogbodo maintained that strengthening the capacity of local government personnel and improving administrative standards would further enhance the ability of the 17 local government areas to contribute to the state’s overall development objectives.

He expressed optimism that the governor’s national recognition would inspire greater dedication among public servants and reinforce the administration’s efforts to build a responsive, accountable and development-driven public service.

The Enugu State Local Government Service Commission is chaired by Barr. Nana Ogbodo, with Hon. Peter Nnaji as Member I, Mrs. Florence Ifenyinwa Igboji as Member II, Dr. Bartholomew Ikechukwu Ezeugwu as Member III, Ambassador Amaka Nweke, JP, as Member IV, and Osondu Henry Nnaji as Secretary.
