The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke ESQ, has mobilised thousands of women from Oji River Local Government Area in support of Governor Peter Mbah and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Madueke brought together more than 3,000 women at a gathering in Enugu, describing the event as a platform to unite women across political, religious and community lines while showcasing the impact of the Mbah administration in Oji River. She highlighted the governor’s interventions, including 20 Smart Schools, 20 primary healthcare centres and ongoing road projects, alongside various empowerment initiatives benefiting women.
She also used the gathering to promote voter participation, noting that participants were screened for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Madueke said the women had resolved to support Governor Mbah and APC candidates in 2027, declaring that Oji River would deliver its votes “from top to bottom.”
The event featured the distribution of food items, wrappers and empowerment support, as well as medical checks for participants. Madueke’s mobilisation was commended by stakeholders, including the Oji River council chairman, Mr Greg Anyaegbudike, who described the turnout as organic grassroots support driven by the administration’s projects and human development programmes.
The gathering also attracted other prominent government officials and stakeholders, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Enugu State, Chief Barrister Victor Udeh; the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ngozi Enih; and the Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Professor Benedett Ekwutosi Okoli, among other senior government functionaries. Their presence underscored the significance of the mobilisation and the Mbah administration’s focus on grassroots engagement, women empowerment, social development and inclusive govgovernance.
