The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Enugu State Chapter, has suspended one of its frontline governorship aspirants, Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani, popularly known as Odera, over alleged anti-party activities and actions said to be detrimental to the unity and image of the party.

The suspension, which was endorsed by members of the Expanded State Working Committee (SWC), was contained in an official report dated May 22, 2026, following an emergency meeting convened by the party leadership in Enugu.

The development comes barely days after Nnamani was reportedly disqualified from participating in the PDP governorship primaries, leaving former Minister, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, as the sole aspirant for the party’s gubernatorial ticket in Enugu State.

According to the report, the disciplinary process against Chief Nnamani commenced after the party received a formal petition dated May 20, 2026, from Hon. Edeh Peter Chibuike, a former Councillor representing Ward 3 Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

In the petition addressed to the Enugu State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Vitus Okechi, the petitioner accused Nnamani of engaging in activities capable of bringing the party into hatred, ridicule, and public contempt, contrary to the provisions of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended).

The report alleged that Chief Nnamani made and circulated several negative publications targeted at fellow governorship aspirant, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, while also criticizing the PDP for clearing him to contest under the party’s platform.

According to the petitioner, the publications were circulated among notable party stakeholders, including the South East Zonal Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Ahumibe Michael C., and Hon. Obiora Ugwu, among others.

The petition further stated that the actions of Chief Nnamani contravened Sections 58(1)(b), (f), and (h) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended), which prohibit acts capable of undermining the party, creating internal disaffection, and exposing the party to public ridicule and hatred.

Following the receipt of the petition, the PDP Enugu State Chapter convened an Expanded Emergency State Working Committee meeting and invited Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani to appear before the committee to defend himself against the allegations.

In a letter dated May 21, 2026, and signed by the State Secretary of the party, Hon. Chukwunonye Okereke, Nnamani was invited to attend the emergency meeting scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, at the residence of the State Chairman, Hon. Vitus Okechi, located at Okechi Estate opposite ANAMCO, Emene, Enugu.

The invitation letter reportedly stated clearly that the purpose of the meeting was to provide him with the opportunity to respond to the allegations contained in the petition. A copy of the petition was also attached to the invitation for his attention and response.

However, during the meeting held on May 22, 2026, the Expanded Emergency State Working Committee noted that Chief Nnamani failed to honour the invitation despite evidence indicating that the letter had been successfully delivered to him through a courier service.

After deliberations on the matter, the committee reportedly concluded that the publications and actions attributed to Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani were carried out in bad faith and intended to portray the PDP negatively before the public while creating internal division within the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State.

The committee also held that his refusal to appear before the party to defend himself amounted to an acceptance of the allegations and demonstrated disregard for the authority and disciplinary structures of the PDP.

Consequently, the Expanded State Working Committee resolved that the actions and publications made by Chief Nnamani against Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji were capable of bringing the party into hatred, contempt, and disrepute.

The committee further stated that his conduct contravened Sections 58(1)(a), (b), (f), and (h) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended), while his refusal to honour the party’s invitation despite confirmed proof of delivery was described as condemnable.

In line with Section 57(3) of the PDP Constitution, the party announced the suspension of Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani from the PDP for a period of one month effective from May 22, 2026.

The party also referred him to its Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and possible sanctions in accordance with Sections 57(4) and 57(5) of the PDP Constitution.

As part of the disciplinary measures, the PDP Enugu State Chapter inaugurated a seven-man disciplinary committee headed by Barr. Emeka Abah to further investigate the allegations against the suspended governorship aspirant and recommend additional disciplinary actions where necessary.

The party leadership maintained that the decision was taken in the interest of party discipline, unity, internal democracy, and the protection of the integrity of the PDP in Enugu State as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The suspension of Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani has since stirred political reactions across Enugu State, with several party faithful and observers describing the action as a strong signal by the PDP leadership that acts capable of causing division, disunity, and public embarrassment within the party would no longer be tolerated regardless of political status or influence.
