A new political wave appears to be gathering strength in Enugu State as Hon. Deaconess (Mrs.) Shalom Nnaji has officially declared her intention to contest for the Senate seat representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone ahead of the 2027 general elections, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a passionate and people-centered declaration that is already resonating across political and grassroots circles, Nnaji positioned her candidacy as a call to service driven by consultation, conviction, and commitment to the welfare of her people. Addressing a broad spectrum of stakeholders from elders and party faithful to youths, traders, farmers, and professionals she emphasized unity and collective purpose as the foundation of her ambition.
Framing her entry into the race as a response to “the yearnings of the people,” the APC stalwart underscored her longstanding engagement at the grassroots level, particularly through women mobilization and community support initiatives. According to her, these experiences have shaped her philosophy of leadership as one rooted not in titles, but in sacrifice, service, and genuine connection to the people.
Her declaration, laced with cultural resonance and political symbolism through the rallying call “Ka Nwanyị Jee” (Let the woman go), signals what observers describe as a bold push for greater female representation in a political landscape still largely dominated by men. The slogan has quickly become a unifying chant among supporters, reflecting both gender inclusion and a broader call for fresh leadership.
Nnaji outlined a development-focused agenda aimed at addressing key challenges facing the senatorial zone. These include improving road infrastructure, strengthening healthcare systems, expanding economic opportunities, empowering youths and women, and enhancing security across communities. She also stressed the need for accessible and effective representation that keeps the people at the center of governance.
“This movement is about restoring dignity, creating opportunities, and securing the future,” she declared, while urging constituents to rally behind her vision with their prayers, voices, and votes.
Political analysts note that her entry into the race adds a dynamic dimension to the unfolding contest for Enugu East, especially given her grassroots appeal and growing support base. Her message of inclusivity and development is expected to shape early conversations as political alignments begin to take form.
With her declaration, the 2027 senatorial race in Enugu East has taken an early but significant turn one that could redefine both political engagement and representation in the zone.
As her campaign mantra echoes across communities “Oge eruola! Ka Nwanyị Jee! Enugu East ga-adị mma ọzọ!” the coming months are likely to reveal just how far this emerging movement can go.
