Terrorists on Saturday night reportedly attacked the Ikerin/Ajuba axis in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving several residents kidnapped, others injured, and some feared dead.
According to local sources who spoke with SaharaReporters, the attackers invaded the community and opened fire sporadically, causing panic and forcing residents to flee for safety.
“Yes, it is true but the exact numbers of the people kidnapped, injured and killed have yet to be confirmed,” one source said, adding that security agencies and community leaders are still assessing the situation.
Residents described the attack as chaotic, saying gunmen operated freely for an extended period without resistance.
“The shooting was heavy. Everybody ran. We don’t even know who is alive or missing now,” another resident said anonymously for security reasons.
Community members have called for urgent government intervention, expressing concern over the rising wave of insecurity in Kwara South, where rural communities have increasingly suffered repeated attacks, kidnappings, and violent raids in recent months.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
