A wave of emotion and admiration has swept across Enugu State following a remarkable act of compassion and leadership by Ambassador Mrs. Amaka Nweke JP, who has awarded a life-changing scholarship to a young girl identified as the “star girl” of the Kpakpando Women Support Group for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
The beneficiary, 9-year-old Ugwu Divine Favour Chizaramekpere, has now been officially enrolled into a full educational scholarship programme that will see her through to university graduation—an extraordinary gesture that underscores a deep commitment to human capital development and child empowerment.
Amb. Nweke, who serves as the convener of the Kpakpando Women Support Group, made the announcement following what she described as a deeply personal and inspiring encounter with the young girl during her visit to Enugu.
In an emotionally charged remark, she revealed that the moment went beyond mere interaction, as she embraced the child and symbolically adopted her as a non-biological daughter, pledging to take responsibility for her educational future.
“While in Enugu, I was profoundly touched and inspired by a deeply personal moment that reflects the very essence of our mission. I had the privilege of embracing a young, brilliant, and promising 9-year-old girl, Ugwu Divine Favour Chizaramekpere, as my non-biological daughter,” she stated.
Taking swift action, the humanitarian leader directed her Chief of Staff to facilitate the girl’s immediate inclusion into the Aliyu Care Foundation’s scholarship scheme, a programme designed to provide sustained educational support for exceptional but underprivileged children.
According to her, the gesture goes beyond charity, representing a firm belief in the transformative power of education and the urgent need to invest in the next generation of leaders.
“In recognition of her potential and as part of our unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation, I have directed that she be included in the Aliyu Care Foundation’s scholarship programme, which will support her educational journey through to university graduation,” she added.
Amb. Nweke emphasized that the initiative is a reaffirmation of a broader vision—one that seeks to ensure that no child is denied access to quality education due to circumstances of birth.
“This gesture is not only symbolic but a reaffirmation of our belief that every child, regardless of background, deserves access to quality education and a future filled with opportunity,” she declared.
The announcement has since sparked widespread commendation from community leaders, women groups, and stakeholders, many of whom described the move as a powerful demonstration of compassionate leadership and a practical step toward building an inclusive society.
She further expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Enugu State for their continued support and shared commitment to societal progress.
“I remain deeply humbled and sincerely grateful to the good people of Enugu State for their overwhelming love, warmth, and shared passion in our collective quest to birth a new Nigeria—one anchored on unity, compassion, and inclusive progress,” she concluded.
Observers note that beyond its immediate impact, the scholarship initiative reflects a growing culture of people-centered leadership in Enugu, where policy meets empathy and governance extends into meaningful human development.
For young Divine Favour, what began as a moment of recognition has now transformed into a lifelong opportunity, one that may well shape her future and inspire countless others across the state.
