The arrest was confirmed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, who stated that the driver is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
The fatal accident occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV conveying Anthony Joshua and members of his team collided with a stationary truck.
Two of Joshua’s close associates, his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, lost their lives in the crash.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), five adult males were involved in the accident. The incident recorded two fatalities, one injury, and two survivors. The FRSC attributed the cause of the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
Anthony Joshua, who sustained injuries in the accident, was treated at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos, and was discharged late Wednesday night after doctors confirmed that he was clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.
The Police Command stated that further updates would be provided as investigations into the incident progress.
