Since the sudden and painful death of the Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial Zone, a death that shocked the entire country, it has been one gimmick after another and one tricky move after the other by some power drunk politicians from the zone. These men, known and unknown, believe that an election should be held immediately, driven purely by personal ambition.

The late Senator, who carried the Nsukka agenda everywhere he went, is still lying in the mortuary. Yet, instead of mourning, some power drunk politicians from the zone have already begun moves to replace him.

There were rumours that on the night of his death, a known political leader from Igboeze South Local Government Area, whom many regard as oga ndị Ọga, was the first to initiate clandestine moves, an act many described as evil and selfish. He is so bent of clinching the position no matter what it would take. Oga ndị Oga has once boosted of having more than 1000 houses in Enugu after his tenure as the chairman, Enugu State housing corporation.

There was also another move by a former 4th term national assembly lawmaker, who is also from the same local government area with the late senator that contested party primaries for a fifth term but lost. Driven by his ambition to replace the late Senator, he reportedly held a meeting with some of his cronies to declare his intention. He allegedly deployed allies to visit a popular billionaire from Anambra, Senator Hope Uzodimma, as well as Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. He believes these men could influence the Governor and other top APC leaders, even though he has never openly declared his membership of the party. During one of his recent meetings, he reportedly shared fifty thousand naira each to supporters as a way of retaining their loyalty and building a structure that could counter that of the Governor should he refuse to assist.

Another individual involved is a two term former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, who is currently a member of the party’s state caretaker committee. He has eyed the seat for years, suffering repeated failures during party primaries and general elections. A few days ago, he allegedly sent one million naira to one Hon. Ifeanyi from Ukehe to convene a meeting on his behalf. It was gathered that he initially refused to disclose the donor’s identity, but after insistence from those present, he mentioned the name and said other details would come after the burial of the late Senator.

Dear Ndi Nsukka, do not allow personal ambition to cloud your emotions and sense of empathy. Nobody knows who will be next. It was Senator Okey Ezea, then Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, then Senator Nwogbuoshi, and others. . The irony is that these power drunk individuals always say, “Chukwu na eme eze,” yet they cannot wait and allow God to make them kings.
