Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, on Wednesday presented a landmark budget proposal of N1.62 trillion to the Enugu State House of Assembly, signalling an ambitious fiscal plan aimed at accelerating infrastructure delivery, strengthening social services, and deepening economic growth across the state.
Presenting the 2026 Appropriation Bill, Governor Mbah announced a proposed estimate of N1,617,397,000,000, describing it as a transformational budget crafted to consolidate his administration’s agenda of disruptive innovation, massive infrastructure expansion, and the positioning of Enugu as a premier destination for investment.
The new budget represents a 66.5 percent increase over the 2025 fiscal year, underscoring the government’s heightened focus on capital-intensive development and long-term structural reforms.
According to the Governor, the budget will be financed through a combination of N870 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), N387 billion from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), and N329 billion expected from capital receipts, including development funding and strategic partnerships.
Governor Mbah emphasized that the proposal sustains a deliberate orientation toward growth-enabling spending, allocating 20 percent to recurrent expenditure while dedicating a massive 80 percent to capital projects across critical sectors.
Key priority areas highlighted include infrastructure renewal, education, healthcare, water supply, technology, job creation, and security—sectors the governor described as vital to achieving the administration’s long-term development blueprint.
He further revealed plans for the construction of five new bus terminals at 9th Mile, Four Corner, Udi, Awgu, and Obollo Afor, as well as the procurement of 14 additional aircraft to boost Enugu’s emerging air transport infrastructure.
The budget presentation marks a significant step in the state's 2026 fiscal planning cycle as the House of Assembly is expected to commence detailed scrutiny of the proposal in the coming days.
