Nkanu West Local Government Chairman, Mr. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, formally presented the 2026 budget to the Nkanu West Legislative Council, announcing a total projected revenue of ₦8,219,600,000, describing it as a “Budget of Sustainability” aimed at consolidating critical projects and expanding access to basic services.

Addressing the council members, Mr. Ogbodo emphasized that the budget aligns with the development philosophy of the Enugu State Government, noting that fiscal independence has allowed the local government to execute people-focused interventions without interference.

“This administration has been able to deliver tangible projects because local government funds are not tampered with. That fiscal independence has allowed us to plan, execute, and sustain people-focused interventions across Nkanu West,” he stated.

Key achievements under the current administration include the drilling and completion of solar-powered boreholes at Ọnụeke Ọnọwọ, Igwenchi, Ọnụeke Aniugbọ, Amuzam, Onuvu-Echara, Central School Ndiagu Obuno Akpugo, Anichi, Onuogba, and Agudene. In total, 12 schools have benefitted from solar-powered boreholes.

A special intervention at Agbani General Hospital was also announced, addressing broader water and service needs beyond just a borehole installation. Mr. Ogbodo highlighted the strategic impact of these water projects on public health, education, and community welfare.

Other completed and ongoing projects include:

Facelift of the local government administrative block

Construction of a double bungalow for the Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Agbani

Consistent funding for Type-2 health centres in all 14 wards

Agricultural interventions, including near-completion of a 200-hectare smart farm in Amurri and Akpugo wards, plus distribution of fertilizers and agro-inputs

The Leader of the Nkanu West Legislative Council described the budget as realistic and people-oriented, committing to a diligent review and timely passage.

Mr. Ogbodo noted that the 2026 budget prioritizes infrastructure development, improved healthcare delivery, quality education through Green Smart Schools, internal revenue generation, environmental sustainability, and transparency and accountability.
