...NANS and Enugu State Government Launch Sporting Festival to Promote Youth Unity and Talent Development

Excitement is building across tertiary institutions in Enugu State as the Peter Mbah Students Inter-Campus Football Tournament officially kicks off this Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 12 PM, with a thrilling opening match between the UNEC Lions and IMT at the iconic Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The tournament, organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), JCC Enugu Chapter, in collaboration with the Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports, is a strategic platform aimed at fostering unity, discovering grassroots talent, and encouraging youth participation in sports as a tool for empowerment and community development.
The initiative is named in honour of Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose administration has prioritized youth advancement, sports development, and human capital growth as key pillars of his transformation agenda.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Hon. Barr. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu (GR), Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, emphasized the significance of the event in strengthening inter-campus relationships, instilling discipline, and cultivating a new generation of sports professionals.
“This tournament is more than just football. It’s about channeling youthful energy into purpose, excellence, and pride in Enugu’s potential,” he said.
Also expressing optimism, Comr. Cajetan Ali, Chairman of NANS Enugu State, urged students and the public to rally behind their teams, describing the event as “a celebration of student unity, sporting talent, and the spirit of the Peter Mbah era.”
Strategic partners such as Rangers International FC and OBENZ have pledged their support to ensure the tournament’s success, underscoring a shared commitment to building a strong and vibrant sports culture within the state.
