In a renewed drive to reposition volleyball in Enugu State and align with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s vision for sports excellence, the Enugu State Volleyball Association has inaugurated a new 11-member executive committee to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years.

The colourful inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Enugu, saw Comrade Kingsley Nwosu officially unveiled as the new Chairman of the association.

While addressing newly inaugurated executive, the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barr. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, who was represented by the Director of Coaching, Mr. Ephraim Ochonma, described the inauguration as long overdue and charged them to hit the ground running, prioritising the interests of the state and the revival of volleyball.

“Since the passing of Kenneth Ndu, volleyball in Enugu State has struggled. "It's a call to service, sports is about passion,” he stated, urging the new leadership to focus on grassroots development as the key to reviving volleyball in the state. He further emphasised that some sports have gone extinct simply because they failed to nurture younger talents and stressed that nurturing talent at the grassroots remains the surest pathway to building a formidable state team.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Kingsley Nwosu expressed profound gratitude to the Commissioner and the Ministry for their trust, promising to lead with dedication and results.

“We are inspired and committed to taking volleyball in Enugu State to greater heights. We will do everything, financially, spiritually, and strategically,  to grow the sport. Our goal is to build a formidable team starting from the grassroots, and I have full confidence in my executive team to achieve this,” he assured.

Comrade Nwosu is not new to the world of volleyball; he is an experienced volleyballer and coach who has travelled across the globe representing and advancing the sport. His wealth of international exposure and practical experience positions him aptly for this role, just as Nigeria’s track legend and Olympic bronze medalist, Mary Onyeali, brings her rich sporting pedigree to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2026 National Sports Festival, which Enugu State is set to host.

It could be recalled that the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, in June, set up a Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2026 National Sports Festival to be hosted by Enugu State, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to using sports as a tool for youth empowerment, unity, and economic development. In line with this vision, the newly inaugurated leadership of the Enugu State Volleyball Association, under the capable chairmanship of Comrade Kingsley Nwosu, an experienced volleyballer and coach who has travelled the world through sports, has pledged to work round the clock to prepare the state’s volleyball teams for victory during the festival. This aligns with the governor’s determination to not only host but also win the festival, projecting Enugu as a hub of sports excellence while inspiring young talents to embrace volleyball and other sports as avenues for personal growth and state pride.

Wile Enugu State intensifies preparations to host and win the 2026 National Sports Festival, the newly inaugurated leadership of the State Volleyball Association has pledged to work round the clock to ensure the state’s volleyball team is fully prepared to not just participate but to dominate and make Enugu proud on home soil during the festival. This readiness reflects Governor Mbah’s commitment to leveraging sports for youth development, social cohesion, and economic growth, while positioning Enugu as a hub for sports excellence in Nigeria.
