Another Enugu Lawmaker Defects to PDP, Collapses LP Structure in His Constituency

In a major political shake-up in Enugu State, Hon. Eze Gabriel Lebechi, the lawmaker representing Isi-Uzo State Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The defection, which took place during the PDP’s monthly ward meeting in Umualor, Hon. Lebechi’s hometown, marks a significant turning point in Isi-Uzo’s political landscape. He was accompanied by the entire Labour Party structure in Umualor Ward, effectively signaling the collapse of the Labour Party in the area.

This latest development comes on the heels of a similar defection by another prominent figure, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, indicating what many now describe as a full collapse of the Labour Party in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

While addressing an enthusiastic crowd of party faithful and constituents, Hon. Lebechi expressed his admiration for the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, citing the Governor’s visionary leadership and remarkable developmental strides across the state as a major motivation behind his move.

“I have seen the good work Governor Peter Mba is doing in our dear state,” Hon. Lebechi stated. “This is not about politics; it is about the people. I want to align with a team that is committed to real development and effective leadership.”

He also decried the persistent leadership crisis within the Labour Party, both at the national and state levels, noting that the internal wranglings have hampered his ability to serve his constituents effectively.

“Our people deserve better,” he said. “I cannot continue to watch from the sidelines while a party I once believed in remains entangled in unending internal conflicts.”

Hon. Lebechi’s defection has been received with warm applause from PDP leaders and stakeholders, who described his decision as a step in the right direction and a boost to the Governor’s ongoing transformation agenda.
