State Assembly Member Dumps PDP, Defects to Labour Party

The member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke, has officially dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Labour Party (LP).

Journalist101 reports that the Labour Party is the ruling party in Abia State and the only opposition-controlled state in the country.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, conveying his resignation from the PDP, Hon. Nweke stated that his decision was “predicated on the deep division and polarization in the party from the national to state levels.”

He also informed the Speaker that he had resigned from the PDP in a letter dated March 12, 2025, which was received and endorsed by the PDP chairman in his ward on the same day.

On his choice of the Labour Party, the lawmaker explained that he joined the party after consulting with his constituents and in recognition of Governor Alex Otti’s performance.

“After due consultation with my constituents, and in recognition of the sterling performance of our dear governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, I have picked up the membership of the Labour Party and have now become a member of the Labour Party.”

He further requested to be recognized going forward as a Labour Party member.

“I therefore wish to be accorded recognition going forward as a member of the Labour Party. Please accept the assurances of my highest esteem at all times for your office, your person, and this noble and honourable House.”
