Prof. Bernard Odoh, who was sacked as the Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has filed a Notice of Discontinuance of the suit seeking to stop the Minister of Education from taking any further steps to re-constitute the Council or Governing Council of the University.
On February 7, SaharaReporters reported that Odoh, a former Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State, had dragged the Minister of Education before a Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the legality of his removal as Vice Chancellor of the University.
President Bola Tinubu had announced on November 20, 2024, the dissolution of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, and the removal of its newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Odoh, and Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Nwokike.
Odoh had filed an ex-parte application and motion on notice, seeking an order to stop the defendants from taking further steps to re-constitute the Council or Governing Council of the University pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
However, just three days after filing the application, Odoh filed a "Notice of Discontinuance" on Monday, citing Order 50 Rule 2 (1), Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
The court document obtained on Monday evening shows that Odoh, through his team of lawyers led by Professor Chimezie Kingsley Okorie, SAN, C.E Ibekwe, Esq., and C.O Ikerionwu, Esq., filed the application, stating, “TAKE NOTICE that the plaintiffs hereby withdraw the suit against the Defendants and discontinue this Suit in its entirety.”
